I got a package in the mail with two copies of the French version of Sparkle Spa 5: A Picture-Perfect Mess, which is called the equivalent of “A Perfect Photo” in French. So to celebrate the new title, I posed the book with some flowers and gave it a fancy photo shoot.
Whoa! It’s a jacket for Sparkle Spa #5: Bad News Nails! The book will be out in stores on February 17, 2015, but is available for pre-order now wherever books are sold. (I wish I had a shirt with fringes like Suzy Davis’s. And I wouldn’t mind wearing Aly’s skirt either.)
So I got an interesting email last week from the folks over at Mod Cloth inviting me to create a fancy manicure inspired by one of their dresses and post it on my website. Apparently, lots of manicure-loving people will be doing the same thing. Now, I’m not a nail artist–not even close–but I do love manicures, so I decided I’d have some fun and go for it. And I figured I’d try to create a manicure that all the fans of the Sparkle Spa series could recreate–and that Brooke and Aly and their friends would love. And so….inspired by this dress over at Mod Cloth (which is actually called the Author Outing Dress in Dots), I polka-dotted my nails!
I used two coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Pacific Blue, and then a Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art Pen in White Round. Then I put a layer of clear on top. All in all, I had a lot of fun. And now every time I look at my fingers, it makes me smile. (Wondering if I should go buy that dress….)
Just heard from that All That Glitters will be reviewed in the August/September Library Media Connection. I can’t post the whole thing yet, but I can post this part:
“Girls are sure to enjoy the concept of a kid salon and the everyday activities of sisters, family, and school situations. The simple, easy-to-read text flows effortlessly and leads well into the next book of the Sparkle Spa series.”
Thanks to LMC for all those nice words about my book!
I found out that Simon & Schuster offered free Sparkle Spa massages to all of the attendees of the Texas Library Association earlier this month. How cool is that? Here are some photos of the set-up:
A friend was walking around in the Barnes & Noble on the Upper East Side of Manhattan today and found All That Glitters on the bookshelves there! This is the first time anyone has seen a Sparkle Spa book in a bookstore!
The lovely Sandra Nickel featured me on her blog as part of her “What was on her…” series. If you click here you can read about what was on my to do list, refrigerator door, nightstand, to read pile, feet and mind (though not necessarily in that order). You’ll also get to find out my favorite Lewis Carroll quote. (Here’s a hint: The Queen of Hearts says it.)
Thank you so much for inviting me to visit, Sandra!
Happy New Year, everyone! I’m especially excited for 2014, because this year the first four books in the Sparkle Spa series will be launching–and so will the first Follow Your Heart book.
Plus, when I got home from my holiday travels, this very sparkly jacket sample was waiting for me in my mailbox. I love that glitter!
I just found out that Publishers Weekly reviewed All That Glitters! You can read the whole review here.
Here’s my favorite excerpt:
The third and fourth books in the Sparkle Spa series have jackets! (Makeover Magic will be out in June and True Colors will be out in October.)
I have some exciting news over here! Kirkus just posted a really nice review of All That Glitters (where they talk about Purple Nails And Puppy Tails too!). If you want to read the whole thing, you can click here. This is my favorite quote from the review:
