Kirkus Review for LOVE ON THE LIFTS!

I always hold my breath a little bit when a review for one of my books comes flying into my inbox. This week, the first one for LOVE ON THE LIFTS (the second Follow Your Heart book, out in January 2015) came flying in. And it was a nice one!  (Whew!)

Kirkus Reviews said: “Santopolo does a wondrous job creating 11 distinctly different characters with such limited time for development, and the dialogue is snappy and creative…deliciously appealing fare for teenage girl readers.” (The whole review is here if you’d like to read it.)

Thank you so much, Kirkus, I hope all my readers agree with you.

Visiting my books at Books of Wonder

This past week I was at a party at the awesome New York City children’s bookstore Books of Wonder and got a chance to visit my books there. It’s always so nice to see them out in the world.IMG_0628 IMG_0627 IMG_0626

TRUE COLORS is a book!

I got my author copies of TRUE COLORS (the fourth Sparkle Spa book) in the mail today, and my nail polish happened to match!  The same thing happened when MAKEOVER MAGIC arrived. Maybe I’m subconsciously painting my nails the same colors as my books? We’ll have to see if it happens when BAD NEWS NAILS arrives in February…

The Brooklyn Book Festival and Me

If you happen to be in the Brooklyn-area on Sunday, Sept. 21, and if you happen to want to come say hello, I’ll be at the Brooklyn Book Festival signing copies of Sparkle Spa #1: All That Glitters and participating in a fun panel about books for elementary schoolers with Jon Scieszka and Lenore Look, moderated by Jen Arena. It’s at the Youth Pavillion from 12 noon to 1 pm–I’m not quite sure where the Youth Pavilion will be exactly, but I’m guessing there will be signs.

If you want more info about the festival, you can find it here.

Hope to see you in Brooklyn!

My Polka-Dot Nails!

So I got an interesting email last week from the folks over at Mod Cloth inviting me to create a fancy manicure inspired by one of their dresses and post it on my website. Apparently, lots of manicure-loving people will be doing the same thing.  Now, I’m not a nail artist–not even close–but I do love manicures, so I decided I’d have some fun and go for it.  And I figured I’d try to create a manicure that all the fans of the Sparkle Spa series could recreate–and that Brooke and Aly and their friends would love.  And so….inspired by this dress over at Mod Cloth (which is actually called the Author Outing Dress in Dots), I polka-dotted my nails!

I used two coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Pacific Blue, and then a Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art Pen in White Round.  Then I put a layer of clear on top.  All in all, I had a lot of fun.  And now every time I look at my fingers, it makes me smile.  (Wondering if I should go buy that dress….)

ALL THAT GLITTERS Reviewed in Library Media Connection!

Just heard from that All That Glitters will be reviewed in the August/September Library Media Connection. I can’t post the whole thing yet, but I can post this part:

“Girls are sure to enjoy the concept of a kid salon and the everyday activities of sisters, family, and school situations. The simple, easy-to-read text flows effortlessly and leads well into the next book of the Sparkle Spa series.”

Thanks to LMC for all those nice words about my book!
